Support sought for Darfur force

BBC NEWS | "Diplomats gathering in Ethiopia are expected to pledge extra support for peacekeeping in the strife-torn western Sudanese region of Darfur.

A one-day conference in Addis Ababa to be chaired by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan is to ask for both more money and better logistical assistance.

Some 2,300 African Union peacekeepers are on the ground in Darfur, and the AU wants to triple that number this year.

More than 180,000 have died in Darfur, and two million have fled their homes.

The European Union, Nato and the US are all sending senior officials to the meeting."
