EU Politicians try to rescue Lisbon Treaty
he Lisbon Treaty to reform the European Union is dead after the Irish "no" vote in last weeks referendum. This thought is spreading into European capitals. The Czech republic president Vaclav Klaus said in reaction to the "no" vote "The project is over in its entirety. It makes no sense to continue the ratification of a dead document."
French president Nicolas Sarkozy will today go to Prague to rescue the Czech ratification of the Treaty.
But there are more defectors emerging. Prime minister Brown of the United Kingdom is in doubt too. The House of Lords will decide this week on a Treaty bill in the UK. The opposition leader David Cameron calls for a referendum in Britain. Which would mean the definitive end to EU reform in the coming decades.

McCain and Obama battle over Economy
ohn McCain and Barack Obama showed a fundamental different approach to helping the economy yesterday.
Obama wants a 50 billion stimulus package, a 10 billion foreclosure fund and middle class tax cuts.
McCain on the other hand also wants to repeal the alternative minimum tax, cut tax on corporate profits, make Bush tax cuts permanent, suspend gaz tax for the summer and create a mortgage task force to investigate wrong doings.
McCain is "buying in" to the Bush policies and Obama wants a more direct role in shaping the living standards of people.
